Research Chemist - Continuous improvement PAT-AI
Function
- Become a member of our R&D team and help shape the future of process development in a pharmaceutical environment. This position combines expertise in organic chemistry with data‑driven innovation, leveraging AI/ML tools and Python scripting to optimize crystallization and continuous improvement strategies. You will work at the intersection of hands‑on experimentation and advanced data analysis, contributing to scalable, safe, and sustainable processes in line with GMP and SHE standards.
- Workload distribution:
40% hands‑on laboratory work (experimental design, PAT implementation, crystallization support)
60% data analysis, modeling, and reporting - Process Analytical Technology (PAT) & AI Integration
- Develop and implement PAT solutions (spectroscopy, chemometrics, soft sensors) to monitor critical parameters and quality attributes.
- Integrate PAT with machine learning models and custom Python scripts for real‑time process support and predictive process control.
- Continuous Improvement & Sustainability
- Analyze process parameters to reduce solvent and energy consumption, minimize waste, and improve yield and robustness.
- Drive cost‑efficiency and sustainability initiatives through data‑driven insights and rapid experimentation.
- Crystallization Expertise
- Design and execute crystallization strategies (solubility diagrams, seeding, particle size control, polymorph management) from lab to pilot scale.
- Support tech transfer to the Pilot Plant and Production.
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Process and interpret complex datasets; deliver advanced reports and actionable insights.
- Act as the technical point of contact for PAT, crystallization, and continuous improvement within the project team.
Profile
- Master’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent experience), with strong knowledge of organic chemistry.
- Demonstrated interest in data analysis and AI‑driven process optimization.
- Experience with Python scripting; knowledge of JMP or similar statistical tools is a plus.
- Understanding of Operational Excellence and continuous improvement principles.
- Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and a proactive mindset.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are an asset.
